The stem & stem head have been glued on. The mainmast is used to keep the stem head aligned properly as the glue dries. Conveniently, the bowsprit and the mainmast are the same diameter. At the heel of this ‘bowsprit’ can be seen the triple thick deck beam that will provide a secure fastening place for the actual bowsprit.
