A strop is made by forming a circular piece of rope by splicing the ends of a short piece together. Dan and Lauren did the splicing. The green arrow shows the splice and how it makes the rope fatter.  Then, the 2 tear drop shaped metal thimbles (red arrow) are held in place by wrapping small cord called seizing around and around (yellow arrow).
