Each corner gets reinforced with a small triangle covered by a larger triangle on the back of the sail.  The larger triangle has two tabs, shown here, that fold over onto the front of sail.  The basting adhesive tape has been stuck onto the tabs.  When the paper is peeled away, the adhesive sticks to the cloth and the tabs are folded over and stuck down.
