The brail lines needed 80" of travel to properly furl the topsail. But the cleat couldn't be any further away than 55". Therefore, some rerouting through blocks was necessary to provide the full 80". Unfortunately, the place where the 1/16" brail lines (red arrow) would normally be tied to the 1/8" sheet (green arrow) had to be able to pass through the blocks. The solution was to use a sailmakers needle to thread the brail lines into the end of the sheet and then sew the brail lines to the sheet (blue arrow). The joint was bigger than the sheet itself but it still fits comfortably through the blocks.
